Kennedy
Edward Aloysius Kennedy died in his sleep on March 8, 2020 at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Uncle Ed was 68 years old and was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 25, 1951. Ed graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1969. Ed earned his BS in chemistry at Saint Joseph’s University in 1990 and his MBA at the University of New Mexico in 2003. Ed lived his life in the Philadelphia area and in New Mexico, having most recently been the product engineer for PureColor, Inc., in Albuquerque. Ed also worked as a carpenter and home remodeler throughout his life. Ed was the third child of John Paul Kennedy and Eileen Teresa (Whitaker) Kennedy. He was named after his paternal grandfather. He was one of thirteen children. Ed had compassion for all people. Ed always assisted; whether it was helping his younger sister fix her first car, helping a friend fix his sailboat or winterizing his mother’s home in Ocean City, NJ on a yearly basis. Ed knew a lot about chemistry and science and a little bit about everything else. Ed was a go-to source for music, sound systems, cars, auto mechanics and home maintenance. Ed loved swing dancing, playing music, listening to music, nature, painting and travel. Ed was engaging, present and aware. He was keenly interested in the lives of his many nieces and nephews. He was always up for banter and discussion about politics or sports where a cock of his head, a raise of the eyebrow or a well-timed “pfft” was all that Ed needed to signal that your argument was ill considered or poorly researched. In his home, Ed was painting a full, wall sized reproduction of John Singer Sargent’s El Jaleo, which roughly translates as the ruckus. The painting depicts flamenco guitarists and a flamenco dancer, whom the painter shows in the midst of the controlled, frenetic movement of the flamenco dance. We think El Jaleo captures all that is Ed; music, dancing, joy, the presence of beauty, conviviality, and improvisation. But, Ed might well just have countered our observation with: “Well, that’s just like your opinion, man.” Uncle Ed was as kind a son, brother, uncle and friend as ever lived. His family and friends will miss his presence. Ed is survived by his mother, Eileen Whitaker Kennedy; brothers Paul (Pam) Kennedy, Jerry (Rosemary) Kennedy, Peter (Ellen) Kennedy, John (Susie) Kennedy, Joseph (Shannon) Kennedy, Thomas (Lydia) Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Martin (Nancy) Kennedy and Nicholas (Claire) Kennedy; sisters Christin Pryor (David) and Ann Fulco (Dominic). He is also survived by 44 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his father, John Kennedy (1998) and brother, Leo Kennedy (1973).
